Car Won't Start

critical

Could be battery, starter, fuel pump, or ignition system. Do not keep cranking — you may flood the engine or drain the battery further.

Engine Overheating

critical

Pull over immediately. Do NOT open the radiator cap. Let the engine cool completely before checking coolant level.

Brake Failure

critical

Pump the brake pedal rapidly. Downshift if possible. Use the parking brake gradually. Steer toward a safe area.

Check Engine Light Flashing

critical

A flashing CEL indicates active misfire. Reduce speed, avoid hard acceleration, and get to a shop immediately to prevent catalytic converter damage.

Transmission Slipping

warning

If the transmission is slipping, surging, or refusing to shift, stop driving when safe. Continued driving causes exponential damage.

Steering Loss

warning

If power steering fails, the wheel becomes very heavy but still works. Pull over safely. Check power steering fluid level.

Strange Smoke from Engine

warning

White smoke may indicate head gasket failure. Blue smoke indicates oil burning. Black smoke indicates rich fuel mixture. Pull over and assess.

Electrical System Failure

warning

Dimming lights, dead gauges, or warning light cascade. May be alternator failure. Minimize electrical load and drive to nearest safe location.

Fluid Leak Under Vehicle

info

Identify the color: red/pink = transmission, green/orange = coolant, brown/black = oil, clear = AC condensation (normal). Do not drive with active coolant or transmission leak.
